Tech Tāmaki Makaurau

Three-year programme

Tech Tāmaki Makaurau is a three-year programme of action to grow Auckland’s technology industry, to create jobs and to attract talent and investment to the region.

This exciting and ambitious initiative was launched in 2022 by Tātaki Auckland Unlimited, in collaboration with industry, government and partners. It identifies significant opportunities for the tech industry to drive economic prosperity for the region’s communities and to establish Auckland as a ‘tech city’ on the world stage.

and overcome sector challenges.

The vision for the Tech Tāmaki Makaurau programme is for our region to be a global epicentre of innovation, technology and talent that creates an inclusive and equitable future for all.

Manaakitanga: Creating a tech ecosystem that is a beacon for home-grown and international talent Kaitiakitanga: Developing a tech industry that delivers a sustainable and equitable future for all Kōtahitanga: Growing Tāmaki Makaurau as a globally connected, inclusive and collaborative tech city.

The tech industry plays an important role in building tomorrow’s economy – an economy that is resilient, sustainable, and inclusive - and if the industry is to realise its potential, key challenges must be overcome including spatial concentrations, skills shortage and mismatches and lack of diversity.

From strategy to action

The Tech Tāmaki Makaurau programme is being delivered in partnership with industry and with ongoing collaboration across agencies. An industry advisory group provides guidance for the action plan, ensuring that the action plan delivers opportunities and wellbeing outcomes for all communities of Tāmaki Makaurau.

The programme weaves together strands of action that collectively drive towards its vision - action across Tātaki Auckland Unlimited woven together and aligned with the great work being driven by various organisations, leaders and change-makers across Tāmaki Makaurau.

Working in partnership with Māori and Pasifika leaders and organisations, in particular, will is critical to achieving the vision of an inclusive and more equitable future.
