About us

Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland is the epicentre of Aotearoa New Zealand’s technology sector. ‘Tāmaki Makaurau’ is the Māori name for Auckland and means ‘the place desired by many’. This is especially true for the tech industry, with more than 12,000 firms employing 70,000 people. Auckland’s tech companies are driving economic growth while helping solve some of humanity’s biggest challenges.

Auckland’s technology sector is dynamic and growing, with the potential to support greater productivity, prosperity and wellbeing for all our communities. In 2023, Auckland’s tech sector contributed an impressive $16.5 billion to the region’s GDP and plays an important role in building tomorrow’s economy – an economy that is resilient, sustainable and inclusive.
