Boutique vineyards, eateries, and rolling green hills, just a 20 minute drive from the city.

Try a cellar door tasting at one of Kumeu’s wineries – the scenery makes it a great area for a self-drive or join a small-group wine tour.

If craft beer’s more your thing, stop in at the brewery or quench your thirst at New Zealand’s oldest riverside tavern – both also offer great food and stylish settings, plus regular live music to add to the atmosphere. There are plenty of popular cafés and restaurants to choose from, or – if you’re the picnicking type – drop in to the market for ultra-fresh picnic supplies.

Keen for something more active? Try the Tree Adventures rope courses and flying foxes, play a round of golf, go mountain biking, surfing, horse trekking, or check out some of the walking tracks in the greater Kumeu area. And within easy reach of Kumeu are the west coast’s black-sand beaches, including Piha, Muriwai and Karioitahi.
