What is Team AKL and why should I join?

Team AKL is the volunteer group for major events run by Tātaki Auckland Unlimited.

Becoming part of Team AKL gives you a chance to be at the heart of what’s going on in Auckland – meet new people, be at the centre of action at these great events, and help make Auckland a great place to live, work, study and visit.

If you’re enthusiastic and passionate about exciting events and everything Auckland, we would like to hear from you.

What do Team AKL volunteers do?

Team AKL volunteers work across a range of jobs, from being festival ambassadors, providing event information and assisting with workshops, to assisting back stage or at busy street performance areas.

Our annual events include Auckland Lantern Festival, Auckland Diwali Festival, Pasifika Festival, and Tāmaki Herenga Waka Festival. There are also opportunities that arise when mega events such as World Masters Games and America's Cup come to Auckland. 

How much time do I need to give?

The time commitment is flexible. Some volunteers might work one four-hour shift during an event, while others might work multiple shifts on every day of the event, as their time allows.

What events could I volunteer at?

We need volunteers for Auckland’s major cultural festivals including the Auckland Diwali, Lantern, Pasifika and Tāmaki Herenga Waka festivals, and other activities to support Auckland’s annual calendar of major events.

What do I need to do to join Team AKL as a volunteer?

1. Register: Sign up using the form below. Applicants will receive instructions for the next stages via email. 

2. Complete a Criminal Records Check via Ministry of Justice: Complete a Ministry of Justice criminal record check. This usually takes three business days. 

3. Provide a copy of your criminal record check to Tātaki Auckland Unlimited: This is mandatory for all Team AKL volunteers. We do this for the safety of all our event volunteers and attendees. 

4. Await confirmation! Upon review of the information provided, applicants will receive confirmation from a Team AKL volunteer coordinator. 

Confirmed members of Team AKL will receive updates by email about the different cultural events and volunteer shifts available.

Volunteers will need to attend a pre-event volunteer briefing before each event they work on.
