This article references business support received through Tātaki Auckland Unlimited, which previously delivered the Government’s Regional Business Partner Network (RBP) programme in the Auckland region. These business support services can now be accessed through the Auckland Business Chamber, the RBP delivery partner from 1 July 2022.

Hit hard by COVID, Fraser Cars owner Ida Tristram accessed Tātaki Auckland Unlimited’s business support services and discovered just how important it is to get your story out there.

"We need to tell our story – we’ve got something to celebrate, we've got something unique and we need to shout it from the rooftops."

A major roadblock during uncertain times

“Fraser Cars has been manufacturing sports cars in New Zealand for over 30 years. We often talk to people who’ve said ‘I wanted to build a car my whole life’, and over the years we've tried to make that more accessible.

COVID really affected our business, in particular that first level four lockdown. We had to close the doors, had to send our guys home, and there was no understanding of where we would be in a week's time, let alone a month's time, let alone a year's time.”

Accessing business help

“Tātaki Auckland Unlimited and RBP were pretty incredible in the support that you could tap into. We’ve been in business a long time but I’m never shy to put my hand up and you can always learn so much about your business.

That support enabled a beautiful tune up, not on a car but on our business, on our staff, on us as business owners, and on our product. I'm excited about the future of our business.”

Reaching new customers

“One of the biggest things that I have in my mind going forward and which will be our mantra this year is we can't sell a secret. It's a pretty cool, iconic New Zealand story and it's one I'm super proud of.”
