In late 2020, Screen Auckland launched a film location gallery showcasing the diverse locations on offer in Tāmaki Makaurau – from gritty city streets to mystical forests, and magical landscapes to stately suburbia and much more.

Fast forward to July 2021, and the location gallery has had a make-over. Sixty hero locations have been scouted and existing entries brought up to date with brand new imagery and information to give location managers, scouts and producers a more comprehensive view of potential filming sites across the region.

Jasmine Millet, Screen Auckland Manager, says the refreshed gallery is a big step forward for the region’s film office.

“Location galleries are industry standard in most of our key markets, so having an accessible gallery helps us in our mission to ensure Auckland is as welcoming as possible for both local and international productions – and to ultimately support our region’s world-class screen industry,”

Along with the refresh, Screen Auckland has launched an app, developed with gallery platform Reel-Scout. Free to download from the iPhone AppStore, it easily connects filmmakers to the online database and Screen Auckland’s production resources while they’re on the move.

Screen Auckland will continue to grow the locations gallery with ongoing updates and is inviting property owners and venue managers across Auckland to submit venues, spaces and locations using the gallery’s online submission form. Once a submission is reviewed, a listing can immediately be made viewable to productions seeking locations.

Jasmine Millet says increasing the number of locations available will help prevent over-exposure of existing permit locations while ensuring the screen industry has ongoing access to sustainable location options.

“Screen Auckland is excited to invite the submission of new locations, which will help balance the needs of productions and the region’s unique environment. By providing productions with alternate and fresh looks for shoots we can reduce pressure on popular sites.”

Property owners and venue managers can submit a location. Guidelines on gallery submissions are available on the Screen Auckland website.
