The 36th America's Cup begins in Auckland this December and runs through to March 2021. This fantastic event will provide great exposure for Auckland to the world; however, there will be an impact on the availability of locations for filming activity and infrastructure.

Wynyard Quarter/Cup Village
The 36th America’s Cup Village is located in the heart of the city, beginning at Hobson Wharf through to Silo Park. The Cup Village at Wynyard Quarter is now active to mid-April 2021. You will see significant signage and branding installed across the Cup Village for the duration of the event.
The event has been issued a permit from Auckland Council to occupy the area for the duration of the America's Cup activities. This gives them jurisdiction over the area as well as health and safety responsibilities for anyone entering the permitted space.
The America's Cup has protection under the Major Events Management Act (MEMA) , meaning there can be no unauthorised association between the event and another brand. This should be considered before proposing filming activities within the area.
Traffic Impacts
Areas of the city that may have associated impacts from AC36 include the ferry terminal, Last Mile (between Britomart, ferry and Cup Village), Queens Wharf, Princes Wharf, Aotea Square.
Auckland Transport is working to manage the transport network adjacent to the Cup Village and around key race vantage points (notably, Quay Street, Tamaki Drive, Queen Street and central city, Wynyard Quarter, Lake Road, King Edward Parade in Devonport).
Additional impacts on the road network in these areas may put unsustainable pressure on an already impacted network and TMPs are unlikely to be able to be approved for race days. Proposed filming activities on non-race days in certain areas may be considered on a case-by-case basis with sufficient lead time for feasibility discussions.
Key public sites
A number of sites around Auckland including Aotea Square, Takapuna Beach, Devonport, North Head are likely to be activated between December 2020 – March 2021.
Maungauika North Head, Bastion Point, Tamaki Drive coastal public spaces, Takapuna Beach, King Edward Parade, Devonport, Windsor Reserve and other public spaces which have a possible view for public of race courses may have extra congestion (public/traffic), as they are expected viewing locations.
Anyone interested in filming in the Cup Village/Wynyard Quarter area from November – March 2021 should note the following:
• Proposed activities must not breach the Major Events Management Act (MEMA). Additional information about the MEMA and frequently asked questions can be found here.
• The Cup Village is open every day (other than Christmas), from 9am – 11pm. Proposed activities must not disrupt any event activity or block pedestrian movement on the event site.
• No filming can be considered on a race day or other key event Cup Village activation days.
• There is no available parking within the Cup Village or the local area.
• Additional road closures are likely to be required to manage pedestrian access to and from the Cup Village. Access will be managed as required to ensure safety. Only authorised vehicles requiring access to businesses and residences will be given access within any closures. Access on Beaumont, Daldy and Halsey Streets north of Madden Street will be restricted to permit holders only.
Obtaining clearance to film at key sites or streets impacted by AC36 events cannot be guaranteed between 15 December 2020 (Cup Village opens) and late March 2021, and processing timeframes for filming applications cannot be assured.
